Sound on tape

Cleveland, USA

// 904L World Class Sound

Born in Cleveland, OH, the enigmatic producer and mutli-instrumentalist Sound On Tape draws influence from legends El-B, Burial, Mr. Fingers, Kraftwerk and Sticky as well as deep seated Jazz icons Bill Evans and John Coltrane.

DJ Mag writes that his debut album Price is “rooted in garage, R&B, jazz and house, and brimming with sumptuous gems — the gospel-tinged ‘If You’re Free (Say So)’ and swooning garage / slow-jam hybrid ‘Burnin’ Out’ are particular standouts — it’s rich and heartfelt, the kind of album that stays with you long after the music stops.” Released via his own imprint 904L World Class Sound, the project sonically places him alongside contemporaries Overmono, Burial, Sammy Virji, and Emma-Jean Thackray.

With early remixes from rising UKG stars MPH, Wilfy D, Zefer, and House producers Byron The Aquarius and Mike Nasty, Sound On Tape is quickly becoming one of the most respected voices in the genre while keeping art at the forefront.
